It is called the linea negra. Each woman has what is called a linea alba, a line that stretches from your belly button to your pubic bone. However, it is not necessarily visible. Some women, when they are pregnant, notice different changes in the pigmentation of their skin. For instance (DadSteve here is REAL nipple talk, ha ha), some women notice darker coloration of their nipples, and some get marks on their face ("mask of pregnancy"). Sometimes, the linea alba gets darker too, which is why they refer to it as the linea negra. Mine did. It is still there but MUCH lighter now (you have to really look) and it has been 7 months. Hope this helps.

No prob! BTY: my name is Jenel. Just thought it would be easier for everyone (so you don't have to call me "Justin's Mom" although, I better get used to that because I am sure that is what his friends will be calling me someday, ha ha).

Linea negra....I remember looking it up when I was pregnant but I forgot all about the proper name since it's been a while.
My doctor told me it would come back with my next pregnancy. So I guess I will have to wait and see. I did notice that I also had some darker pigmentation around my nipples....it almost looked like freckles, but these also went away after the pregnancy.
Apparently, skin tags and other things like that are more common during pregnancy because of your hormones.
I've had a very faint line there all my life (that I remember) but it did get real dark with my first pregnancy. I haven't seen it darkening yet with this one. I'm thinking it took about 6 months to fade away last time. Don't worry-it WILL eventually fade away.
