Hi Mels,
I saw your message yesterday but couldn’t think of an adequate response. I still can’t, but I guess any reply is better than none.
I’m so sorry to hear that the pain of what you went through was compounded by the treatment you received from your caregiver. You should have been listened to. You should have been believed. It wasn’t a coincidence that you were begging to be allowed to birth on all fours. That was your natural wisdom knowing what was going on with your body. For the doctor to put her convenience first makes me so angry on your behalf!
I know a woman in Glasgow who had SPD, but thankfully it was recognised and managed properly. For her, the hardest part seemed to be afterwards, when she couldn’t walk for weeks to soothe her colicky baby. I know she was contemplating a subsequent pregnancy ‘perhaps one day’.
While I can understand your wish to find other people who have been through SPD, but perhaps it is also important to deal with the whole trauma, which includes the insult added to the injury, of being ordered to do something painful and damaging to yourself ie get back on your back while your legs, and cartilage, were forced apart. Have you looked in to any Birth Trauma Support Networks in your area?
I’m glad that you are looking on the bright side and enjoying the delight of your new son. However it is also wise to recognise the hurt you have endured lest it scar you emotionally long term.
Best wishes, and thank you for sharing your experience for the benefit of others.
