In Reply to: brown spotting at 5 and a half weeks!?!?! posted by Emily on September 09, 2003 at 22:06:54:
I don't want to scare you, but I started spotting in my fifth week and ended up having a miscarriage about 5 days later. I called the doctor and they kept telling me not to be concerned that it was normal, but I was still worried. The spotting started on a Monday night and was initially red (when I wiped) but then went to brown, was brown all week, and Friday I wiped and saw red again, though not much. I demanded to see a doctor, though they kept insisting that as long as it was brown it was ok. When we went for an ultrasound that day (Fri) they couldn't find a baby. The spotting got heavier gradually over the weekend and I went to the hospital in the middle of the night Sunday night with intense bleeding and pain. So, I guess that's when the actual miscarriage began.
Now, all that said, I have heard MANY stories of women that did have spotting and everything was fine. My suggestion is to get off your feet completely and if you're really concerned, tell the doctors office that you really would like to come in for an ultrasound to make sure that everything looks ok. Worrying can make a situation worse, so do whatever it takes to ease your mind. I worried all week, not knowing what was happening to my baby. Best of luck to you, and let me know how it goes.
