I would look up "lactation consultant" either in your yellow pages or on a people search on yahoo for your area. If you can't find it there then just call up your local hospital. Someone in labor and delivery will have a long list of lactation consultants in your area. They usually carry a wide variety of brands and they can tell you why each one is special. They will probably ask you a lot of questions, as well. They'll want to know if your baby is a premie, if you've been engorged, etc. We went in with a pump in mind so they didn't have a lot of questions for us--but they did give us a HUGE packet of information to take home with us.
We were very interested in the Medela Symphony. It's the brand new one that they just started selling this September. A lot of research went into make it. However, one of the main researchers says that the Ameda is just as good and that the milk will never get into the motor. I really wish we could purchase a hospital grade pump, but they are usually so much more expensive ($600+) so I guess we'll have to go with the regular brand. We just hope that it will last through 4 children, if we are blessed with the ability to have that many.
Have fun picking out your pump and let us know if you learn more about it!
