I decided not to have the AFP. But then on my u/s they found some soft markers for downs. My only options were the AFP, amnio, or do nothing. I didnt want the amnio but I wanted to find out anything I could so I took the AFP. It came back negative- which helped calm me down alot.
I do know that others got false positives and it made for the worst few weeks of their lives.
If you do decide to take it, I would go into it knowing that it is just a screening test and that even if it comes back positive almost all of the babies are still born completely healthy.
