We had decided against all of the testing because we heard about all of the false positives and we initially thought that there was nothing they could do in utero so we didn't know what the purpose would be. We wanted our daughter either way. But my OB started talking with us about what they could do if they discovered something. He did say there were a lot of false positives, but if we got a positive then they would do a much more detailed ultrasound before doing anything like an amnio. He also said that we could contact surgeons and have them onsite when the baby was delivered. I also heard recently that they can do stuff in utero for spina bifita (sp?) so that was good news. Anyway, we opted for the tests and it was such a sigh of relief when we got all negatives back. I have a friend who also recently decided to go ahead and get the tests done because she said she would be worried either way--whether or not she got the tests done, so why not go ahead and see if they would do a more detailed u/s.

I would just talk it over with your OB and decide what you feel most comfortable with. There are no "wrong" or "right" answers here. Good luck with your decision!

Tight hugs,
