Hi,
I have had 2 miscarriages, at 9 1/2wks in Nov 99 and 7 1/2wks in Mar 00. I had 2 girls after that in Mar 01 & Apr 02.
When she can try again depends on her emotional well being and whether she had a d&e or a d&c. If she is emotionally ready she can try when she ovulates again. If she is not emotionally ready, she should wait until she is. If she had a d&e or a d&c, then she should wait at least 1 month for the lining to heal. Most dr's will tell their patients to wait 3months, but that is for emotional reason, unless they had a d&c or d&e.
Every pregnancy has an 18% chance of miscarriage. The first month after a miscarriage the risk goes up to 20%. It sounds like alot, but considering a woman only has a 20% chance of getting pg each month it's not alot. The first month after a miscarriage is also the easiest to get pg though too. It's a catch 22. The 2nd month after a miscarriage the risk goes down to 19% and the 3rd month it is back to 18%. Now this all depends on whether the hcg(pregnancy hormone) level is back to zero. Sometimes it can take weeks for it to go back to zero and her dr should be checking at least twice to make sure her level is going down.
The best thing to do for her is to let her know you are there for her day & night, if she needs anything to call you.
