: : I had my 39 week appointment yesterday - the doctor estimated the size of the baby using an ultrasound . . . he's already 9lbs! I'm having a few contractions, every now and then, but nothing real painfull. My cervix is also completely closed. He promised he won't let me go beyond my due date of 02/03/04 and will enduce by then if I haven't gone into labor.

: : Anyone else ever been in a similar situation? What can I expect with induction?

: : Thanks for your help and comments!

I was induced 2 days before my due date because I developed preeclampsia. I was not dialated at all, I probably would of went over my due date if they wouldn't of induced. I went in around 11 am and they used a gel to soften my cervix and also put in a foley, which is like a balloon that is inserted into your cervix to help you dialate, it falls out by itself after it's helped you dialate to 4 cm's. After about 3 or 4 hours my water broke on its own and I was given an epidural because my contractions were unbearable at that point. They started pitocin which did not help me dialate at all so they monitored me and the baby through the night to see if I would go into labor. At one point they put in an internal monitor to monitor my contractions and a fetal monitor on the babys head to monitor his heartbeat. At about 1 pm the next day my Dr. suggested a c-section because there was no progress. It was a very hard and very painful (sorry, don't mean to scare you) 27 hours but thank God my baby was delivered safely by c section and I recovered very well. Most of the time induction goes very well and is pretty fast but I was one of the few that had a diffucult time. I wish you a very fast and healthy delivery! Don't be scared it may seem like forever when you're going through it but its so worth it when you finally hold your little one. Best wishes!!
