Neurofibromatosis??

As you all know now, I have a six month old son. He is mixed... father is black and I am white. Since birth he has developed numberous birth mark type of spots all over his body... and dr's have shown concern about them but assumed it was problems with pigmentation. He went for his check up yesterday and we have been referred to a specialist. They are concerned he may have neurofibromatosis. I have been reading about this and I am scared to death... does anyone know anything about it or know someone who may have it? Thanks in advance...
