: I know this is a touchy subject on the board and we all have VERY different opinions, but now I am really confused. It sure as hell would be a lot easier and cheaper to get my almost nine month old to drink milk instead of formula. Everything I've read and every doctor I've spoken to (including my cousin who is a pediatrician) tell me to give baby formula until age 1. They all say that breastmilk is best for the first year, and the closest substitute to that is formula. I gave my first child wholemilk when she was 12 and a half months old.

: Any more opinions/ideas/information?

i gave my eldest (now 3 as of the 21st of july) milk when she was 61/2 months old. THe reason i did that was because on the growth chart she was tipping the scales, always over the hight and weight. she is now 4 feet tall wieght 50 lbs. she is a very healthy little girl. If i had given her formula till she was 1 she would of been obese as a infant.
I talked to my dr., who is the head of metroplitan hospital here in windsor ontario and he said it was fine.. BUT i had to do a few things first, try her out on 3% because of the fat content is highter and it has a growth hormone in it to help with brain development and second have her try one bottle a day for 2 days then 2 bottles a day for 2 days and so on, see how she does for the first week. if everything goes well then keep her on the milk.
After the 2nd week he had me bring her back in to do a weight check. by then i was giving her milk full time, he had said it was fine if i felt like it to give her 2 % as she was still ahead and had not lost weight she had actually gained 3 lbs in that 2 week time. WE made another appointment in 2 weeks time and she was growing fine , and had only grown 0.5 lbs which was very healthy for her being she was already tipping the scales as being over the growth chart.

I did find a huge differnce is price... i have a second child who is almost 2.5 months old. i will probably do the same with her with her but start it a month later as she is a bit tinnier.
best of luck to u and your little one.
