: Hi

: I have a 9 mos old and wants to start weaning from the bottle. He drinks juices/water from the sippy cup but, most of the time he doesn't swallow it all. When did your baby gain the skill to suck the liqiud from a spill proof cup? When did your baby drink from a straw?

: Thanks in advance

Hello,

Every baby is different and learn things at different times. My babies learned to drink from a cup at 5 months and introduced a straw at 7 months and learned the first day. If he shows signs that he would like to use a cup, I would just let him drink from it even if he does not swallow it. Keep trying and he will get the hang of it. Once he learns how to drink from the sippy cup, drinking from a straw will probably not be difficult for him.
