Meningitis vaccine

My son just turned a year and his doctor has asked if we want to get the meningits vaccine (Haemophilus b conjugate vaccine) for him as well as the Chickenpox vaccine. These are both optional and are not covered by our provincial Health Plan which is not an issue since my husband has a great drug plan with his employer.
I am more concerned with any side effects that he may experience with the meninigitis vaccine as it is fairly new I think.
Have any other parents had their babies vaccinated for Meningitis? If so, did your baby experience negative side effects and if not, why did you choose not to have your baby vaccinated?
