My 8 week old is the same way, she was losing weight (a pound a week) so my pediatrician gave her medicine to control her refulx and help her gain weight. Since she started taking the medicine, she has become a much happier child - a totally different baby, she used to fuss and cry after each feeding and now she just burps like a normal baby and has very little spit up. She is also SO much happier now that milk stopped coming back in her throat all the time. My ped. said there is a muscle at the top of the stomach that stops food from coming back into the throat, however in about 70% of babies at birth, that muscle is not well developed and causes reflux. So my little one takes medicine to make that muscle stronger and zantac to prevent too much acid forming in the stomach. Until that muscle gets better, she will always have reflux. He said most babies grow out of it by 6-12 months but some have it up until they are 18 months old. I would ask for a second opinion of you are worried and tired of all the spit up. I was very upset that she had to take medicine at such a young age, but after I saw the results and how much happier she was, I can't see her going back to being a miserable child and I hope she will grow out of her reflux soon! If you have questions just ask! Love Sally2
