Sounds like your Grandad is doing what he wants & that's what is going to make his last days happy. Sitting in a hospital, being pumped full of drugs, & having people pitty him is obviously not what he wants (sounds like my father. . .) The best thing you can do for him now is spend time with him. He's 94, he's lived his life & he sounds as if he's accepted what is to come. It is hard to lose a loved-one but you should find comfort in knowing that he is living his life as he sees fit :)
