Pacifier age

How old is too old to still be using a pacifier? My 3.5 year old doesn't go to sleep without his. We tell him he's a big boy and he doesn't need it, but once bedtime comes, he can't live without it. Now, I've heard of plenty of kids that suck their thumbs for years, so I'm not terribly concerned. However, I do want him to stop some day. Thanks!
