Hi Lisa,
You're definitely not alone, and I feel it's both a nature and a nurture thing. My daughter also likes to be held a lot, and I accomodate when I can (as do her daycare providers). It's gotten better as she's gotten older and more independent, so take heart. She's six months old now and she'll sit in her infant seat in the bathroom and play with a toy while I shower, and will play in her exersaucer for 20 minutes at a time. She also likes floor play if I'm close by or playing with her. She used to hate it. She still hates to ride in the car, which is very trying since we have a long commute to work / daycare several days a week....

In the meantime - I know you said he's getting heavy, but since you're carrying him a lot anyway, have you tried a pack or sling? Alexandra loves to be in the Baby Bjorn pack, especially since she can face out. That's how we do laundry, dishes, cook dinner, and shop.

He should start to get more idependent soon!

Best of luck - Marybeth
