Tummy Sleeping

My son is 11 weeks old and will not sleep on his back. If we put him on his back to sleep, he will wake up after a half an hour. When I put him on his tummy (for naps during the day), he sleeps peacefully for hours! I would love to let him sleep on his tummy at night, but I am scared of SIDS. Has anyone else had this problem? At what age can I safely put him to sleep on his belly?
