i have excactly the same problem and have talked with other people about how i can encourage my 5 month old little girl to entertain herself. the majority response i got was to let her cry. give her a drink of water before putting her on the floor or in the cot, and just let her cry. she'll work out that she won't get the attention and eventually stop. i was told that if i keep picking her up, she'll end up spoiled. i don't know if i entirely agree. it is really difficult to listen to your baby screaming and know that she's just after a cuddle. there has to be a better way to teach baby to entertain herself. the worst of it is when we go out in the pram to a mall and she screams. it really is impossible to carry baby all the time. i sympathise with you, because i know excactly what you are going through, and i really have no idea of the answer.
