Most breastfed babies need to nurse every 2 1/2 - 3 hours, rarely do you hear of breastfed babies going 3+ hours between feedings. Breastmilk is easily digested & that's why they need to eat more often. My daughter (5 pounds at birth) put on a pound every 12 days for the first few months. As for the sleeping, a 3 hour stretch for a 5 week old sounds pretty good. He'll sleep longer as he gets older. Hang in there.
