I also read WAAAAAYYYY too much. But, like you, I did eventually put down the books and start listening to my inner voice a little more and THEN would look for information regarding a subject that I was interested in learning more about. I've found the internet (and especially this website) to be the most useful tool in this respect. Dr. Sears' books also made me worry, and cry. I tried all of their suggestions for attachment parenting, and found myself overwhelmed and losing my own identity. Especially around the nighttime parenting suggestions. But I have to give credit to Dr. Sears for including some excellent information on food alergies and intollerances, and some guidance and suggestions for nursing Moms regarding this subject. Without Dr. Sears' book, my daughter would have continued to suffer for much longer than necesssary, as so few medical professionals have any real knowledge or understanding of this ailment. I liked the Baby Whisperer as well, as it suggested a more practical, parent directed approach, with reminders to respect your child as an individal little human and trust your own instincts. I am currently reading The Mother Dance by Dr. Harriet Lerner. I'm really enjoying it, and would reccomend it to parents with kids of all ages. Her style of writing is smart and funny, and she draws on both her own parenting experiences and her professional experience as a family therapist (and the two often conflict!) to tell some interesting stories as well as to provide some practical guidance and information. I've been reading passages aloud to my husband, and he's enjoying the book, as well. Your thoughts on keeping what you can use and tossing away the crap are very valid. I don't think I've read any one book or theory that I have been able to adopt hook, line and sinker. But, I've gathered a lot of good tidbits that have helped me along my short way. S, I enjoy reading your posts. Keep them coming! MB
