Lori, The first thing I thought of even before reading MaryBeth's post was Pica. I also had a friend whose child had it. Usually most people eat dirt, however they can eat any NON FOOD item. My friends son ate paint. After reading your post, I called her, she said www.eatingdisorder.org is a good site for reference and to see if your son fits the picture. She also said it can be genetic, and most important IF it is this, it can be CONTROLLED. Best of luck to you!!! Let us know. : This may sound strange to a lot of people, but I have a real problem here with my 2 1/2 year old and his eating habits. Yes I know a lot of kids have spurts where they won't eat or eat very little, I have 4 of them. But my son eats wood ! He does not want to eat food as normal people do. Although if it is a carbohydrate - Bring it on ! He will eat toast, crackers, etc. He also likes cheesies and potato chips. He is a big milk and juice fan as well. Meat - NO WAY ! Fruit - FORGET IT ! Veggies either. If he comes across a nice chunk of wood (yes wood) however, he does not hesitate one second to bite off pieces ( fair sized ones too), chew them up and swallow them. He has eaten a hole in his head board that is at least 6 inches by 2 inches in size. We are frantic. We try to keep him from doing this but he does it every chance he can, wherever he can get it. His building blocks look like they met up with beavers. We have affectionately began nicknaming him termite ! Please, if anyone can help us out here with either a reason why he is doing this (teething is ruled out), a way to get him to stop or even a food list that either tastes like or has a texture like wood that is healthy, please let me know ASAP. I am going crazy trying to put an end to this. He has done this as long as he has had teeth and has been able to stand. HELP !!!! : Lori
