Hi Sue-
I wanted to breast feed for the first year but all my baby did was scream. You can ask the pediatrician, but mine told me that breast milk was the easiest for them to digest and that only if I was eating spicy food would it upset him. Well, it wasn't until Jacob passed what looked like a stewed tomato (sorry for the graphic description!) into his diaper that we were referred to a gastroenterologist. That doctor told me I could give up all dairy or give him a special formula because he lacked an enzyme to digest proteins. I reluctantly chose the formula because I couldn't bear the thought of accidentally eating something that would make him scream in pain. He's been on Neocate since he was four months (he'll be one in January) and he has been fine on that. I don't know if your baby's problems are the same, but go with your gut, even if the doctor is telling you differently. I called the gastroenterologist's office today and the nurse could not believe that my pediatrician is telling me to start Jacob on table foods, meat and milk! She told me to absolutely not do what he is telling me! We have an appointment January 2nd. We are our children's best advocates. No one else knows them like we do. Even though the doctor is supposed to know best, many times mommy knows more. Best of luck to you.
