Anyone know about Toddler HeadButting?

My 13 month old son, 2 weeks ago, has started head butting, ONLY ME. I think that he seems to think this is funny, (sometimes he smiles, sometimes he just looks me dead in the eyes) but he has a very hard head, and it actually hurts ME pretty bad, especially when he gets me on the temple. He's headbutting so hard that it can give me a headache for a few minutes if he gets me in the right spot. My daughter never did this.

I'm sure it's not a self soothing mechanisim because he does it when he's fully awake and it is very purposeful. I imagine it could be attention getting, but he's already got my attention as he does it when I'm holding him...but once again he does it to ONLY ME.

Any thoughts...experience....knowledge of others who have had similar experiences? Oh, and should I be at all concerned that he is hurting HIS head? Thanks in advance.
