Hi Kathryn, I just read your post about clomid. Teacher was talking about me when she said I had to sign a release...I doubt that is unusual.
The form was called: Consent for Controlled Ovarian Stimulation. This is what one line says, "It has been explained to me that the drug has known adverse side effects such as ovarian hyperstimulation, multiple pregnancy and a posible association with ovarian cancer"....then it goes on to say that by signing it you release all liabilities.
Also, they do not like to put you on it if you have ovarian cysts. I was only on the lowest dosage of pill form for a few months. I ovulate on my own perfectly fine, so I felt it was not worth being on it if it was not necessary.
My guess is that using it orally for a few months is probably not too bad, but I would not use it for a long period of time. In fact, my RE will only put you on it for 3 months. Then you take a break and she insists on IUI (Artificial Insemmination). You do have to be on clomid to do IUI, at least at my RE's you do, but I think they don't want you on it for too long so they do IUI if the first dose of clomid does not work.
Also, insist that you have weekly vaginal u/s. Someone on another board was on clomid for like three months and had never had an u/s. It will show if you have cysts, and will also show the follicles...you can actually look ont he screen to see them...it is pretty amazing. They will then give you a progesterone test a few days after ovulation to be sure you actually o'd.
I hope this helps....Good luck and lots of baby dust:)
