How can my baby's eyes be brown?

Hey, girls. Does anyone know anything about genetics?

My first DS was from my ex-boyfriend, whose eyes are very dark brown. Mine are hazel. My first DS's eyes are dark brown, just like his father's. Makes perfect sense.

However, my DH (we married in April 02) has very blue eyes. Nearly everyone in his entire family has blue eyes. So he's blue, and I'm hazel. I assumed my new DS would be blue or hazel. I am surprised to find that they're the same very dark, slate-gray/brown color my first DS's eyes were at birth! If they're this dark at only 8 days of age, they will certainly be not only brown, but very dark brown. Nobody is going to believe he's my DH's child!!! Well, actually, they will, b/c his features look exactly like my DH's, but I guess I just think this is really weird. I personally wouldn't care if my son's eyes were purple or polka-dotted b/c I love him and he's beautiful, and I know my DH is the same way, but I'm wondering, could brown eyes really be that dominant that a blue and a greenish-hazel have a very dark brown-eyed child?
