At my school we are given 6 weeks off, unapaid (we have to use our sick days). Then, if we want to stay out more, we have to take the FMLA, which allows you to be out of work up to 1 year, unpaid.

Being fired b/c of maternity leave is illegal. Look into this w/ an attorney
