Mine was a first trimester ultrasound--at 8 weeks. They inserted the little stick (looks kinda like a penis--but I don't think it goes in near as far as your dh does). And they gently roll it from side to side to pick up the ultrasound waves. To me it was more comfortable than a regular pap smear because there was no scraping involved and they didn't have to open that area up--that I remember. It all just happened so quickly. However, if you tighten up over worry then you may experience some pain. Just relax and enjoy the show. At 8 weeks I got to see the little flashing heartbeat and I just laid there crying while dh and I watched in amazement.
