Hi!
I had to have NSTs done every week for the last several months of my pregnancy. They first bring you in a room and you lay on a table (be sure to be sitting up as much as they will let you because I almost fainted and fell off the table one time. You see, when I layed on my back, my baby cut off that main artery and made me light headed. You will know if you can lay on your back or not within a few minutes!
Anyway, they strap a monitor on you (probably similar to what they monitored you with in the hospital) and it starts reading contractions. Sometimes you have them and don't even know it! :)
A piece of paper starts coming out one of the ends of the machine and gives a read out for the doctor. Any peaks they see above a certain line will be contractions. It also monitors the heart rate, etc of the baby so it is a really good test to have. Don't worry though! It normally only takes 15-30 minutes of sitting there and gives the Dr plenty of good information on how you and that baby of yours is doing!
Take care and good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
