: My girlfriend and I are 8 weeks along, and at this stage the baby can hear its mothers voice along with other peoples voices. Im wondering what a good time to start reading to my child, I want him or her to be familiar with my voice, so when i take care of him when mommys gone, our child wont cry and cry and cry some more. So what week along is a good time to start reading stories to it? Also, I heard that how the mother feels during pregnancy (stressed, worried, mad, sad, or angry) affects how the child is when its young, is this true?
Alan, if you go into babycenter.com, you can track your babies entire fetal development under the pregnancy tab.
As far as your baby hearing you...Generally around 21wks. you can start reading stories and playing music on the belly and your baby will hear you loud and clear.
Dont worry, if you are involved in your girlfriends life on a regular daily basis, there is no doubt your baby will know your voice when he/she is born. It's an amazing thing really, how they know the voices of there parents directly after birth!
Enjoy this time with your girlfriend, it really is a precious thing in life!
