: : My wife and I started a new bedtime ritual several weeks ago to try to once and for all stop the pattern of nursing nine month old Hannah to sleep. What we do is wait until she yawns or rubs her eyes, then take her upstairs and play quietly in her room with a basket of stuffed animals, then read her Goodnight Moon (usually 3-4 times) and then put her down. My wife and I alternate nights taking her upstairs. She's getting the idea and all is well.

: : The funny thing is that when my wife takes her upstairs they sit in the middle of the room and my wife pulls out each stuffed animal, tells Hannah the name of the animal (Percy the Puffin, for example) and tells that animal good night. I did not know my wife did this. When I went up, I just pulled the basket out and figured Hannah would play. Every time she would end up sitting in front of the basket and looking at me like I was stupid. I was wondering what the heck her problem was until today when my wife mentioned her way of doing things. As it turns out Hannah was waiting for me to do what Mommy does!

: : She's a smart cookie she is.

: I like that! My daughter does that stuff to.
