: I am still wondering about my question earlier.
: My cousin is 7 months pregnant and is on antidepressants and antipsychotics for BiPolar disorder. I didnt really want to post why she is on them but anyway....... She is experiencing preterm labour and her OB/GYN told her to drink wine to settle the contractions and keep the baby from coming. He knows her medication regime but still says to do this. I am totally shocked. Have any of you ever heard of this and what are your opinions? To those of you who answered me already - thank you. I hope this thread doesn't get played with.
I have been in the medical field for 10 years and know that antidepressants can cause many neurological problems in the baby. The most common with these medications is cerebral palsy. And as far as wine, like I mentioned in my response to wine, it can cause hemorrhaging in the baby and mother at the time of delivery. The only thing that prevents preterm labor are medications given in the hospital like magnesium sulfate.
Hope this helps.
