We're still struggling with my daughter, who seems to want to wake up earlier every morning. She's obviously still tired (she starts to fall asleep while my wife is nursing her downstairs) but refuses to go back to sleep for any significant amount of time. She's been waking up around 5:30am (the 5:50 thing stopped by the way) and we're trying to find ways to keep her asleep or at least in bed until 6 or (preferably) 6:30. The only thing we know to do is go in, give her some toys and her sippy, and let her cry until 6am if she doesn't go back to sleep. Is that a bad way to handle it? On the one hand, maybe it will convince her that if we don't stay in her room with her it's not time to get up. On the other hand it seems like it just teaches her that if she cries long enough we'll eventually come get her.
