: The tether in a car seat is an optional device. In fact, my car was the last one produced that didn't have a tether anchor, so I couldn't use it. I believe they started including these anchors in 2000 on all cars, but some started earlier.

: We have 2 cars, and bought 2 car seats mainly because car seats were a big pain to remove and reinstall in another car. It was worth the expense to me.

: Having your child's car seat installed properly is very important. You can go to your local fire station and have them inspect your installation for you. If they find it's not properly done, they usually help you get it right. In some cases, they may even install it for you.

: Hope this helps.

Funny story about insatlling our car seat. Baby came early and although I had been warning hubby to get it in installed, he wasn't listening. So the baby comes and he is just a wreck, hasn't slept, and he couldn't see straight to read the directions. So he takes the car seat to the Maryland State Police to have them help him. Well nobody there could, the only person who knew what to do was some guy hanging around from Animal Control. We were both a wreck all of the way home from the hospital. We eventually re-installed the seat.
