: P.S my friend is a attention seeker, and lies alot about her kids to gain attention.

Hi Lisa,

Diarrhea could be just a bug or a sign of many different diseases. If in fact it is Cohn's disease, in addition to the information Shana gave about what it is, Crohn's disease can be mild or severe. Adults are prescribed steroids to halt the disease. In children, steroids do not work well. Instead, a child receives azathioprine which is an immunosuppressant drug which can almost cure the disease. Taking vitamins is very important due to the loss caused by the diarrhea. If the disease were to progress to a very severe form which in most cases happens rarely, then a small part of the intestine or rectum may need to be surgically removed.

The only way a doctor can confirm that the child has Crohn's disease is by doing a barium X-ray. He may do blood tests to make sure there is no internal bleeding like check for anemia and also the white blood cells to make sure there is no inflammation or infection, but the only way to confirm it is a barium x-ray or endoscopy, sometimes if not sure they will do a colonoscopy in which they insert a small camera.

Like Melinda mentioned, that is terrible that she did not have this checked out before if the diarrhea has been chronic.

Keep us updated. Thanks.
