: Yesterday Charlie was sleeping at his grandma's. She puts him on her bed and surrounds him with pillows. I have never been happy about this arrangement and one several occasions have asked her to use the play pen, but she doesn't. When I went to get him yesterday he was sleeping and then I heard a thunk and him screaming. He fell out of the bed. He seemed to hit his head pretty hard. I called the doctor and they said to keep an eye on him. He seems ok but he was very cranky had a lot of trouble sleeping last night, he was restless and up a lot. Could he have had trouble sleeping because he hit his head? How can I tell if he has a mild concussion? I am really worried about him.

Hi Sue,

Sorry about Charlie. I hope he feels better. It sounds like he was up because of the pain the fall caused to his head. Usually if there was something wrong, he would look sleepy, confused, maybe some vomiting, not eat well, his eyes would look glossier, just plain strange. I would give him a little bit of Tylenol or Advil for the pain and keep an eye on him and depending on how reacts the rest of the day, then take him to the doctor. Otherwise, he should be okay.
