According to the Merck Medical book, it says:

"Symptoms of a kidney infection usually begin suddenly with chills, fever, pain in the lower part of the back on either side, nausea and vomiting.

A third of the people with kidney infections also have symptoms of a lower urinary tract infection, including frequent, painful urination. One or both kidneys may be enlarged and tender, with tenderness felt in the small of the back on the affected side. Sometimes the muscles of the abdomen are tightly constracted. A person may experience episodes of intense pain caused by spasms of one of the ureters (renal colic). In children, symptoms of a kidney infection are often slight and difficult to recognize. In a long-standing infection, the pain may be vague, and fever may come and go or not occur at all. This occurs only in people who have major underlying abnormalities, such as an urinary tract obstruction, large kidney stones that persist, or, most commonly backflow of urine from the bladder into the ureters of young children. This can eventually damage the kidneys to such an extent that they can no longer function properly. The result is kidney failure."

Again, don't be too alarmed. My kids both were born with urinary obstructions, both have/had backflow of urine into the kidneys, and both have kidney damage. That is why I pay close attention to these things.

If you are concerned, your doctor's office should have an answering service which can page a nurse to talk with you. If then nurse feels that it's urgent, she can page a doctor to call you.

I hope you'll feel better soon. Sorry... please keep us updated.
