: My 11-month-old is walking now and refuses to wear shoes. It's fine for her to go barefoot inside, but she likes to walk around outside too. When I put shoes on her, she throws a screaming fit. You'd think I was torturing the poor girl! She won't even stand up in them, she just sits on the floor screaming and trying to get them off. The doctors say don't put shoes on babies till they start walking, so I didn't. But starting them earlier would have gotten her used to them so she wouldn't freak out so bad now. Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions on how to get her to like shoes, or even any brands of shoes that are more comfortable or more fun to wear? Thanks!

I believe this is just a phase and will pass. Also, it is better for babies and toddlers to go barefoot because that is when they are forming an arch and sometimes if you purchase a shoe that does not have arch support or not the right kind it can cause damage to their feet and not develop an arch completely or cause their ankles to go inwards which will cause problems in the future. I would just wait until your baby is ready. When he is ready, I would buy a shoe with an arch until about 4 years old.
Hope this is helpful.
