: : My friend's daughter is 11 and is deathly afraid of thunderstorms. To the point where she will scream at the top of her lungs. My friend has said she tries to ignore her but it doesnt work.(don't know if she really does tho)Her daughter will wake up the house during the storms. So I wondered if any one had any advice I could pass on to my friend.thanks....

: I have found that ds has a lot of fears of loud noises as well. The best thing to do is reassure that it is ok, at least for us. We will sit together and watch the storm. And when I see lightning I say ready... 1... 2...3... It works great for us. I noticed when I did not do this during a recent storm ds freaked out and screamed and cried (poor baby). This also worked for washing his hair, and vacuuming! LOL! Good luck!

thanks Shana, I guess noone else has this problem b/c your the only one that replied.hehehe. I like the 1..2..3..I will let her know that. My girls sleep right thru storms and rather enjoy watching them as well so I lucked there, and so I really don't know what to tell my friend. Her daughter is 11yrs old so I thought she would be old enough to understand that it's lightning that can hurt you, noise can't(although she is slightly mentally delayed) But thanks for responding....bye for now..
