: Did any of your babies have an irregular heartbeat in utero and then be born healthy and okay? I am asking this because at my last appointment(Wednesday), my doctor said she was concerned because she heard my baby's heart skipping beats(I am 35+4 weeks today)and I am having an ultrasound Tuesday. It just seems like Tuesday is taking so long to come, and I am so scared. So, has anyone else had this happen and everything turn out okay? TIA!! ((hugs))
To be sure everything is okay, ask the doctor to order a fetal echocardiogram, preferably done by a pediatric cardiologist himself, not by just an echocardiogram tech which can be done now while being pregnant. It is like a regular ultrasound but with the echo they can see every part of the heart inluding veins very clear and hear the heart sounds and see the heart waves on the monitor. This will tell them for sure if there is something wrong with your babies heart or if the skipped beats are normal for him. I was a nurse for many years and have assisted in these tests. This test is very accurate. Many of these cases of babies with skipped beats turn out to be normal or a ventricular septal defect (VSD) which is a hole in the heart or a valve abnormality which can be corrected with surgery.
Hope this information is helpful.
