: My 10 month old DS is getting very physical. He hits everyone, especially me. He hits when he is happy or mad. He also hits my daughter really badly. I meet up regularly with a couple of girlfriends of mine who have babies/toddlers. My DS is the youngest of the lot and he hits the other babies. He is now the little terror of the group. If I say NO, he hits even more. I just try to ignore him. Any advice on how to get him to stop?

Hi Marie,

At 10 months, he is way too young for a time-out. I believe 2 or 2-1/2 years old is a good age for time-outs. At 1-1/2 thI would try and see if there is something he wants and also give extra love and attention and see if that helps. Though I still would continue to tell him to stop or no even if he keeps doing that despite the extra love and attention to let him know that it is wrong to hit. He may not talk but 10 months is the age when babies begin to understand the word "no or stop" and begin to test their parents.

Take care.
