: I remember a few weeks ago someone commented that they sing Weird Al songs to relax their baby, which got me to try out different songs to sing when Jeffrina gets moody. My favorites, Sarah Brightman and Kurt Elling, did nothing but make me look ridiculous. I tried songs I loved as a kid, "Mr Bojangles", "Rocky Racoon", and "Convoy" - but she didn't seem interested.

: Then I remembered something my uncle told me when he heard we had a little Bilksy on the way: All kids enjoy a monkey dance - especially a retarded monkey dance. I wrote it off as something I would never use, especially since this is the same uncle that told us that babies sleep better when the house smells like spaghetti. But last week Jeffrina wouldn't stop crying so I put on a giant wool hat and mittens and started dancing and she looked confused at first, and then she laughed, and then she went to sleep. I thought it might be a coincidence, so next time I danced like a sleepy gazelle - nothing. A drunk hippo - nothing. A bipolar alligator - notta. But a retarded monkey - laughter followed by sleep. Of course, after thirty minutes of monkey dancing I'm ready for a nap too!

: Anyone else dance or be silly for your baby’s amusement?
