: My son is 3 yrs old. He does not like to chew his food – just keeps it there. I have to keep reminding him to chew and poke his chees with my finger to make him move his mouth. Certain foods like Cottage cheese, chicken, biscuits, hard suger boiled sweets and chips he chews and swallows but his daily meals take an hour to finish, be it lunch, dinner or breakfast. He seems to be eating only for the sake of eating, he does not seem to be interested in food. He has only been growing tall not at all gaining weight infact loosing weight. Please help me I am really worried.
You might consider taking your son to be evaluated by an occupational therapist. As a teacher, I have known children who have behaviors similar to your son. Many of those children have some type of oral motor difficulties. OT's have experience with that sort of thing. Your son might have trouble with different food textures.
