Hi, Amberlyn--I don't love daycare costs myself, but on the other hand, think about the enormous responsibility they have, for not really very much money. $800 a month sounds like a lot, but imagine trying to live on that. And we're entrusting these people with the lives of our children, not typing up memos for us or something.

My sister watches Colin. We are paying her $900 a month. That's not so much around here. We scouted daycares and they ran anywhere from $650 to $1200 a month. So we sort of landed right in the middle when we made my sister an offer! Even though it sounds like a lot, it cuts her former salary (as a payroll organizer) by more than half.

I know it sucks. I'm sorry. It's tough to work and have kids in more ways than one. Not the least of which is financially! Hang in there. When he's only being watched a couple hours a day (should start in 1st grade, when he is in school until 3:00 or so) then the costs will go down.

: Hi,I would like to know why is daycare so expensive? My dh's son's mom called him today and said that his daycare costs 200 a week.I know that it's kid's being taken care of,but why so much. He's almost 5yrs old.Shouldn't he be in head start or something.I think that is outrageous. My dh can't even afford to pay bills, but she so calls makes more $ than us,but wants him to pay for dc.And what is a voucher?
