: Hi,I would like to know why is daycare so expensive? My dh's son's mom called him today and said that his daycare costs 200 a week.I know that it's kid's being taken care of,but why so much. He's almost 5yrs old.Shouldn't he be in head start or something.I think that is outrageous. My dh can't even afford to pay bills, but she so calls makes more $ than us,but wants him to pay for dc.And what is a voucher?

It really depends on the area you live in. I personally pay $269.50 a week for an infant, and one in pre-k (4 yr olds). They day care my children go to is the best around here. They have a never ending waiting list. Atleast 2years for an infant spot. It is a privatly owned christian daycare, not a chain like Children's World or Kinder Care. Usually the "chain" daycares are more expensive. If you go like 30 - 45 minutes north of here, the cost of daycares almost doubles! I'm not sure what the name of the program would be where you live, but we have a program here called "ABC vouchers". Some daycares except it, some don't. It is based on income, but if you qualify, you pay next to nothing for daycare. You can call the health dept for more info. Good Luck!
