I absolutely agree on many points you made. Especially hitting gets you nothing but a bad case of the guilts, and be prepared to leave anything, anywhere, anytime. Be prepeared to walk away from groceries in the checkout line, or leave a playdate in the middle of coffee. Not listening HAS to have consequences, and this will get there attention more than any slap or spank. We just moved our daughters(24 months) timeout spot today in fact. We had been putting her over the babygate to sit on the stairs for a couple of minutes. She bit her brother(13 months) and came over to me right away and "stairs now"! Now she goes in her room for a couple of minutes and we talk after. Good luck.
