: Hi Kelli
: At 4 years old, I don't believe your child could have possibly understood the consequences of her actions. Although, it is tragic that it will cost you a lot of money to repair the damage done, personally I wouldn't feel anything other than an explanation about the seriousness of her actions would be of any benefit. Even with an explanantion she still too young to fully understand what the loss money will mean to you. To a child money is ever abundant and something you simply take from your purse or go to the bank for. You are right, your neighbour should have been supervising the children more closely, but as you acknowedged, you are also partially resonsible, as the incident could not have occurred had it not been for the paint that was left on your deck (please don't view this as criticism because similar things happen to us all no matter how careful we are).
I agree what Rowena has said. Just tell your daughter what she did was very wrong etc. Personaly i would ask the other mother to get her daughter and your daughter to wash the paint of the walls as a form of punishment. Its no good taking pocket money away as Rowena said a 4 yr old don't fully understand the meaning of money.
