Hi Sally! First of all, congratulations on your new little bundle of joy!!
I breastfed my son and I also had sore nipples for a while. I bought some cream from the drugstore made specifically to lubricate and it is for breastfeeding...I can't recall the name, but it is in a purple box. It is found in the area with the breast pads. It helped with the cracking. Just think about it...your breasts are doing something they have never done before and it takes a while to get used to it!!
I was just like you when my son was born. I never took him out of the house until he was about 4 weeks old. And even then...I hated it when people would hover over him and (heaven forbid!!) breathe on him!!! LOL!! I also hated when family members would come over and let their children, who were just outside playing in the dirt, hold my son and touch his hands...they didn't even have their kids wash their hands first!!! I would politely ask them to wash their hands before touching the baby!! You know...as much as we want to protect them...they are going to catch colds and stuff. But I feel that it doesn't hurt too much to be a little cautious at first. My husband kept telling me that my son was going to have to get used to germs and stuff...my comeback was always "well...not all at once!!" So, I agree with you...I would wait a little while before taking your new baby out in public!!
Now on to #3!!! They grow up way too fast. I can't believe my son is already 14 months and walking all over the house!!! Enjoy every moment of it...even the all night feedings and lack of sleep!! Because as much as my son used to love to be held close...now all he wants to do is go, go, go!!! I think your sadness does stem from hormones...it took a few months for my hormones to seem to straighten out so that I didn't cry watching commercials!! LOL!!! Here is a little head's up though...no one told me how much things on television would affect me after having a child. I am talking about when they show children being hurt in war or through neglect. I really still can't watch anything like that. So beware!!!
I hope my rambling has given you some help!! Take care of that new little baby and I wish you well!!
