: Help! My daughter has had a bit of diarrea for a few days now, and it is causing quite a rash. I think I made it worse by using baby wipes, it is now quite red and it looks like there are also a few open sores. I have been putting vasaline on her inbetween changes, and I have been putting her in the bathtub and using a spray bottle of water to clean her off and then patting her dry, but it seems to be getting worse, not better! I have looked all over for advice on this, but only seem to find info on the typical mild diaper rash. Any suggestions?

Hi,

My son had a terrible rash for over a month when he was younger and I tried everything.
What I found to be most helpful was: to let him go without a diaper as much as possible, even to take a nap without a diaper and line his crib with towels.
Also the Aveeno Baby bath helped soothe his sore bum.
You also need a really good barrier cream to protect her skin so that it can heal. My son's dermatolgist recommended IHLES PASTE. It is very thick but will stay on all night to protect her bum.
Ultimately, we had to get a prescription from the dermatologist for hydrocortisone cream.
And like everyone else has said, don't use wipes. I just used a soft cloth and warm water to clean his bum or if he had a bowel movement I would just give him a warm bath that way any irritants in the feces is no longer in contact with his skin.
I would go see your doctor in a week if there is no improvement.
Good Luck!
