In my opinion, if you are living together, or even if you aren't and the child is at your house, you should have some say in what the child does, especially if it is unacceptable behavior. I think if you are correcting him from hitting a dog, that is the right thing to do. What is going to happen when the dog is older and gets mad and bites back in self-defense? He is actually treating his child as if he were older than he is by letting him do whatever he wants. A child needs guidance and discipline to become a productive adult. Now is the time to start, if not sooner!!
