: Hello.

: Newbie here. New father too. What a great experience it is too! Our son is 9.5 months old. We have a gas fireplace that we use occasionally, never when he is up though(yet). He is fascinated by the sound it makes when he plays with the brass vents. Anyhow, he insists on playing with it. We tell him no, we will even slap his little hand and tell him no, but he thinks it's just a game. We pull him away, and give him his toys, but he makes his way back there almost immediately. We don't know what to do. It gets so hot when it is turned on, that we refuse to use it at all when he is up because we don't want him to get burned. I don't want to put up a screen, because I think we will just have the same problem. For the moment, we are okay with not using it, but if someone has some suggestions how to deal with this, I am certainly all ears.

: Thank you.

Hi Mark, I have the same problem with my 11mos. old little girl. She is insistant in playing with the fireplace. I too do not want to put a screen up but if it comes down to it I guess I would.

The best advice I can say is to just keep saying no and pulling him away and distracting him with other things.

Best of luck.
